Saponaria vaccaria
Originating in Europe Cow Cockle is an annual that contains saponin making all parts of the plant poisonous to livestock.
The stem can grow to 1 m tall and braches out with swollen joints. Leaves are arranged opposite of each other, clasp at the stem, blue -green in colour and are 2-8 cm long. The flower of the cow cockle are pale red to deep pink in colour have 5 petals fused together and are loosely grouped at the ends of the stems, flowering occurs from June-July.
