Saponaria officinalis

Bouncing Bet is native to Europe and is an escaped ornamental. It can be found growing in gravel, sand bars, along streams, ditches roadsides and rail lines. The plant contains saponin glycosides, which means that it can be toxic if eaten.

The hairy stems can be singular or multiple grow 1 m tall and are hollow. Leaves can grow either in opposites or whorles of 3 or 4 and are also hairy. Flowers have 5 white-pink petals and flowering occurs from late spring to early fall.
