Neogobius melanostomus

Description

Round Goby is a 7 to 25cm fish that is usually brown or gray in colour, they have a pelvic fin shaped like a suction cup and a prominent black spot on their dorsal fin.

Habitat

It is found in all the Great Lakes and some inland lakes in Ontario and Michigan. They are usually very abundant around shore and prefer rocky or sandy substrate.

Impact

Round Goby displace native fish and can reduce their abundance by using optimal habitat, spawning mulitple times per year and eating native species' eggs.
